Best months for each place

  • Duduma waterfall: June to September, the monsoon, when the falls are loud and large.
  • Rani Duduma waterfall: August to December, when the stream is full.
  • Deomali: October to February, for clear views. It's windy on top, so carry a jacket.
  • Gupteswar cave temple: any dry month. Shravan (July and August) brings large pilgrim crowds.
  • Upper Kolab: any month, in the late afternoon for the light on the water.
  • Duduma and Rani Duduma on one trip: August or September.

To fit these into 1 to 4 days, see our Koraput trips. Or ask us on WhatsApp for a route that suits your month.

Monsoon (June to September): Duduma at its best

  • Waterfalls: Duduma is at its loudest, with lush green hills all around.
  • Wet rocks: rocks near waterfalls get slippery. Wear shoes with grip and keep children back from the edge.
  • Interior roads: roads to interior villages can be disrupted in the peak monsoon months, including those to Onukadelli, Talamali, Kalyamali and Nandapur. If these places matter to your group, tell us when you ask for a quote.
  • Road updates: we give same-day updates on the Koraput–Borigumma road.
  • Car sickness: on ghat roads, we offer the front rows and window seats to anyone who gets car-sick.

October: the rains end

  • Rain: the monsoon ends early in October. Pack an umbrella for the first days of the month.
  • Season: the cool, dry season runs from October to February.

Winter (November to February): Deomali and cold nights

  • Clothes: nights drop to 3 °C in December and January. Bring warm clothes for everyone: a sweater, a jacket, and a shawl or cap for early starts.
  • Deomali: the best time for clear views. A sunrise start works well, and we plan long hill drives for daylight.
  • Waterfalls: Rani Duduma's stream stays full until December. Duduma is at its best in the monsoon, so winter is for the other places around Koraput.

Summer (March to May): warm, never too hot

  • Heat: even in May, Koraput stays below 35 °C. Our Traveller is air-conditioned, and a non-AC hotel room is fine if you want to save money.
  • At the stops: you'll be out in the sun at each sight. The Gupteswar cave temple has a climb of about 200 steps. Carry water, and take the steps slowly with children and older relatives.
