How this list was made. Every place is on Google Maps with at least 3 reviews for a stay or 20 for a place to eat, and is not marked closed there. Phone numbers and details were checked against the places' own websites, Odisha Tourism, Odisha Ecotourism and the district's accommodation list. The ratings are Google's, not ours, and we take no commission from any place here. Jump to the list.

Which area to stay in

  • Koraput town has the railway station, the Jagannath temple and the Tribal Museum, and 35 places to stay, from dormitories to three-star hotels. It suits a first night off the train.
  • Semiliguda, 22 km from Koraput town, is the nearest town to Deomali (32 km, about 1 hour 10 minutes). It has 33 places to stay, and more homestays than any other town.
  • Jeypore, 22 km west, is the biggest town, with 41 places to stay. It is 5 km from Jeypore Airport and on the way to Gupteswar (54 km) and Duduma (60 km).
  • Out in the hills there are village eco-stays near Deomali and Duduma, coffee-estate farmstays near Koraput, and a few resorts. They are quieter, further from shops, and worth booking well ahead.

Good to know before you book

  • Call the place. Many smaller lodges have no website or online booking. The card's number is the one on the place's own listing or website.
  • Ask before you pay. Hot water in winter, parking for a 17-seater, stairs for elders, family rooms, meals and what they cook, power backup, check-in time, cancellation, and phone signal.
  • Book early for the cool months. October to February is the busy season here, and Puja, Diwali and the New Year fill rooms first.
  • A non-AC room is fine. Even in May, Koraput stays below 35 °C, so you can save money by skipping AC. Winter nights drop to 3 °C, so bring warm clothes.
  • We do not sell rooms. You choose the hotel and pay it directly. The Traveller can pick you up at a hotel in Koraput, Semiliguda or Sunabeda: send us its name with your dates.
  • No night camping on Deomali. The district keeps visitors off the Deomali hilltop between 8 pm and 5 am unless they have booked an official stay, so private hilltop tent camps are not on this list.
