Trains arriving at Koraput
Trains leaving Koraput
From Bhubaneswar
The Hirakhand Express (18447) leaves Bhubaneswar at 7:35 PM every evening and reaches Koraput at 8:05 AM the next morning, which is why most of our first days start at the station. Three days a week the Puri–Koraput Express (18407) is a daytime alternative, leaving Bhubaneswar at 8:35 AM and arriving at 11:30 PM. Planning a trip from Bhubaneswar covers the days around the train.
From Kolkata (Howrah)
One train runs all the way: the Samaleswari Express (18005), leaving Howrah at 10:10 PM and reaching Koraput at 7:15 PM the next evening, about 21 hours. It also stops at Kharagpur. Going home, 18006 leaves Koraput at 8:00 AM and reaches Howrah at 6:30 AM the next morning. Planning a trip from Kolkata has the other ways, by air and via Visakhapatnam.
From Visakhapatnam
Two lines climb from Visakhapatnam. The Kirandul line goes through the Eastern Ghats past Araku: the daytime passenger (58501, with the Vistadome glass-roof coach) reaches Koraput at 1:20 PM, and the overnight express (18515) at 2:20 AM. The longer way round through Vizianagaram and Rayagada has a daily unreserved passenger (58538) and the twice-weekly Intercity (18512).
Other stations near Koraput
Every train from the Rayagada side also stops at Damanjodi (DMNJ), 16 km from our base at Semiliguda, and the Jagdalpur trains stop at Jeypore (JYP). We meet trains at both, at Araku, Rayagada and the smaller halts. How to reach Koraput has the drive from each station.
Booking tips
- Book early for the holidays. Puja, Diwali and the winter holidays fill the overnight trains first. Book the train, then send us your dates; the Traveller is easier to hold.
- Semiliguda is not Shimiliguda. Shimiliguda (SMLG) is a station near Araku in Andhra Pradesh. For Koraput, book to Koraput Junction (KRPU).
- Check on the day. Trains on the Kirandul line run late in the monsoon and stop altogether after a landslide. Look up your train on NTES or its app before you leave.
- Send us the train number. With the number and coach, the driver meets the train when it actually arrives, not when it was meant to.
Times from etrain.info and erail.in, checked 10 October 2026, each train against two sources. Left out because the timetable sites show them as not running: the Durg–Jagdalpur Express (18211/18212) and the Sambalpur–Koraput passenger (58301/58302).
