Koraput is easier to reach than its remoteness suggests: an overnight train from Bhubaneswar or Howrah, a morning flight into Jeypore, or a five-hour drive up from Visakhapatnam. This page has every route in, with the drive from each arrival point to our base, so you can pick the one that suits your group rather than the one a booking site happens to show first.

By train
Which station suits you depends on where your train terminates rather than which one is nearest the town. Koraput Junction takes the express trains and is our usual pickup; Damanjodi is closer to our base; Visakhapatnam and Rayagada are the ones to aim for when nothing convenient runs all the way in. Drive times below are to our base at Semiliguda.
| Station | Drive to our base |
|---|---|
Damanjodi DMNJNALCO township station on the Rayagada side, closest to our base. Several expresses from the Rayagada direction stop here; check your train. | About 20 minabout 12 km |
Koraput Junction KRPUExpress trains from Bhubaneswar (Hirakhand), Howrah (Samaleswari), Visakhapatnam and Jagdalpur. Our usual pickup point. | About 35 minabout 20 km |
Jeypore JYPThe same Bhubaneswar and Howrah expresses continue here towards Jagdalpur. Jeypore Airport is 10 minutes away. Handy for Gupteswar and Kolab plans. | About 1 h 10 minabout 45 km |
Araku ARKVisakhapatnam–Kirandul passenger and the Vistadome tourist train. Good for groups coming via Vizag who want the scenic line. | About 1 h 45 minabout 70 km |
Rayagada RGDABig junction on the Vizianagaram–Raipur line with many more trains from Bhubaneswar, Howrah and Visakhapatnam. Worth it if Koraput trains are full. | About 3 habout 120 km |
Vizianagaram Junction VZMOn the Howrah–Chennai main line. A long transfer; usually only when a group is already travelling that way. | About 4 habout 175 km |
Visakhapatnam VSKPMain line trains from everywhere plus the airport. We collect groups here for the full trip on request, via Araku or Salur. | About 5 habout 200 km |
Smaller halts
Passenger and DMU trains stop at a good many smaller halts on the two lines, and we meet those too. Timings at these change more often than at the mainline stations, so send us your train number and we will confirm the pickup rather than guess at it.

By road
Buses run overnight from Bhubaneswar and through the day from the Andhra side. Visakhapatnam is the shortest road approach at about 200 km, and the climb through the ghats past Araku is the better half of the drive. Fares below are the cheapest published option on each route, not the sleeper or Volvo fare.

Where we meet you
Tell us your train number, flight or bus and we meet it: at any station above, at Jeypore Airport, at Koraput bus stand, or at a hotel in Koraput, Semiliguda or Sunabeda. The meeting point and the driver's number reach you on WhatsApp the day before. Trains in this part of the country run late and we plan for that — message the driver and we wait. A delayed arrival is not a missed booking.
Coming from a particular city
Three guides answer the questions specific to each starting point — which train to take, how many days to keep, and what the first morning looks like: from Bhubaneswar, from Kolkata and from Visakhapatnam. Once you are here, how to plan the trip, the places to visit and a three-day plan cover the rest.
Timetables and fares on this page were last checked against operator listings in September 2026. Confirm your own train and flight before you travel; we re-check the ones on your itinerary in the week you come.
