Google Maps driving directions, the default route by car, checked 10 October 2026. Drive times are Google's estimate and grow with traffic, rain and stops.

We pick up in Koraput, Jeypore and Semiliguda, at Koraput Junction, Damanjodi, Jeypore, Rayagada and Araku railway stations, at Jeypore Airport, and in Visakhapatnam, about five hours away by road via Araku. If anyone gets car-sick on hill roads, we offer them the front rows and window seats.
Rani Duduma or Duduma: two different waterfalls
- Rani Duduma is the smaller fall, on Nandapur Hill, 48 km (about 1 h 20 min) from Koraput town.
- Duduma, also called Matsya Tirtha, is the big one: the Machkund river drops 175 m on the Odisha–Andhra Pradesh border, 68 km (about 1 h 40 min) from Koraput town, with about 900 steps down from the parking. See our Duduma guide.
If a hotel or a map just says "Duduma", ask which one they mean.
Best time to visit Rani Duduma
August to December, when the stream is full. In the monsoon the hills are at their greenest; by late winter the fall is a trickle. August and September also suit the big Duduma, at its loudest in the monsoon, so both fit on one trip.

- Near the water: stay on the paths and out of the water, especially after heavy rain. The edges are slippery and the current can be strong.
- Shoes: wear closed shoes with a good grip, and hold small children's hands near the rocks.
- Warm clothes: winter nights in Koraput drop to 3 °C, so bring them for early starts.
A day with Deomali and Nandapur
Rani Duduma is on the same road as Deomali and Nandapur, so our itineraries put them in one day. Start early for sunrise on Deomali, Odisha's highest peak, have breakfast in Semiliguda, stop at Nandapur, the old capital before Jeypore, with the Batrisa Singhasana, the 32-step throne of its kings, and reach Rani Duduma in the afternoon. The 3-day plan has this day with timings.
